Generator transfer switch problems
Hi All,
I have the Emergen Manual Transfer switch 10-7501G2. I wired everything up according to the manual, and i cannot get it to work in Generator mode. I have hooked up the generator and tested the power in the junction box (right below the transfer box where the wire from the outlet outside connects to the transfer box wiring). There is 120 volts coming from each hot wire when the generator is running (black and red), so i know the wiring, extension cords, and outside outlet box are working good. The circuits in Line (aka normal mode) work fine. When i hook everything up and flip the switches over to gen mode, no power is sent to those curcuits. The watt meters also dont work or move all. What could be wrong here other than a faulty transfer box? Shouldi open it up and check for anything? Thanks

Did you check across the red and black to verify 240vac ?

If you were missing one of the hot legs..... you would still measure 120v from either leg to ground or neutral. You to check for 240v on the two hot legs.

Ok i fired up the generator again and tested volts accross both hot wires (black to red) and i got 240v. This correspods to both blue wires on the emergen inlet. I think this thing is broken, one of the mini breakers is flimsy and doesnt stay on all the way (but keeps power flowing), and one of the rocker switches is loose and wont get that secure "click" into place. I think they sold me a bum unit.

Believe me, I know! It took about two hours to put in. The worst part was getting the big bulk of wires through the side of my main box, so many wires in there! Looking on amazon, about 1 in 10 people had a problem with a defective part, so my luck i am one of those people. They are sending me another one at no cost. I think i am going to take the time and re arrange the wires in the box so there is a big space for the transfer box wires to come in this time. And any breakers that feel strange or defective i will swap out with good ones on the old unit before i send it back to amazon. I hope the power doesnt go out until then. With my luck lately it probably will.
