wiring double switch with an outlet

We have been tring to wire a double switch and an outlet with one incoming power source. We can get the outlet "hot" but the switches will not work right. One of the switches is going to a light and the other is going to go to a

You have to use two pigtails on the incoming hot, one pigtail for each switch. You can use a third pigtail for the outlet. Basically, you need to make sure the incoming hot is attached directly to both switches and the outlet.
