Question about AC adaptor output

Hello. I bought a SATA to USB adaptor for my disc drive so I can connect the drive to my laptop but problem is it didn't come with the specified AC DC adaptor but it came with the wire that connects to it. So basically i'm trying to make one myself. The pinout on the specified adaptor is 1-5v 2A, 2-nothing, 3-ground, and 4-12v 2A. I have a AC adaptor that has a 12v 2A output and another adaptor that has an output of 5v 2A. Will it work if I connect the two adaptors to the respective pins and both ground wires to the ground pin?

Welcome to the forums.

Since there is only one ground pin.., both negative wires from your supplies need to connect to it. They should operate fine like that.

make life easy on yourself and buy an AC/DC adapter like this.

It will allow you select multi voltage and switch polarity and provides for various size plugs. And you can use on another item if need be. I have several appliances that do not have the original adapter and I've used these as permanent replacements. Then when the appliance has worn out or breaks, I still have a versatile power adapter. I also keep one in my electrical tool box for testing purposes.
