Question How to connect a outlet to a single light switch.

I have a small shop in a basement in a building complex.This room has no outlets just a single switch and one light..Now I have a outlet adapter connected to the light bulb for now..but I would like to connect a outlet to the one switch not sure if itís possible..by the way sam located in Westchester New York I'm not sure about codes just trying to get info if its needed i think i can find out.
The wiring in the light is black wire also white wire also red wire tucked up top a little now when I removed the plate on the switch only thing I saw was black wire and red wire not sure if there was a white wire..
mid itís possible can someone help with this situation would be greatly appreciated and would it be okay to connect power tools to this outlet I was thinking of connect a multi outlet.
please help...

Welcome to the forums.

We need a full description or pictures of the wiring at the switch and the light, We can't guess at what you are looking at. If you saw red at the switch.... white should also be there.

Is there only one cable at the switch with white. black and red ?
Is there only one cable at the light with white black and red ?

Do you have permission to make changes to a building it does not sound like you own?
