Pool Pump wiring

Just replaced an Intermatic t104 240V ac ( 208-277v) 24hr dial time switch for my pool pump which was not working.
I wired the new one exactly as the old one was and everything is working fine -- but I have a question
concerning how the original was wired versus the directions from intermatic.
This is the way it was wired -- Wires from the panel (line in) connected to terminals 1 and 3 (same as intermatic directions)
and the load wires were connected to terminals 1 and 3 as well but intermatic directions say the load wires should go to
terminals 2 and 4. One wire for the pool light is connected to terminal 2 as well.

Did the original installer just simplify the process by wiring the load to terminals 1 and 3 ? rather than following the intermatic directions ?

Thanks.

It sounds like they were bypassing the timer.

I agree. And since that is 240vac only timer...... the 120v pool light should not be connected there.
