unknown tool

Hello all,

My friend's neighbor is a retired union electrician in his 80s, and he allowed me to take a few tools for my collection. He gave me this tool (pictured) but neither of us knew what it was. Can anyone help?

Welcome to the forums!

I've never seen one before but I'd guess it's some type of cable clamp.
Hopefully some of the others will know more.

The picture may not be clear, but there is a small blade on the flat part near the roller. It's a cutter of some type, I just don't know of what.

Old bell phone lineman splce tools, from back when phone lines were, more complicated...

Right side tool is the reel to hold a spool of wire,
left side tool is looks like "metal magic" cable stripper,

Love that picture, but you've really dated yourself, Hal.

Eh, thanks, but figuring out what it was wasn't from personal knowledge,

but I've seen some of those old tools around, and have always been "hands on"

So, "while-I'm-not-an-engineer" grandfather owned the local lumber yard and kept delivery trucks, and freight cars working, dad and uncles were engineers and taught me to think along "how was it assembled" and "what does it do".
