Old 1945 Motor Question

Hello Folks,

I was hoping there was someone out there who can help me with some questions regarding an old motor that is on my 1945 Little Giant Power Hammer. I have spoken with several folks as well as the folks at Little Giant and no one seems to have much info.

I have attached photos to hopefully help but here are my questions:
1) What outlet can I plug this into?
2) It seems as though this is the 220V version of a 2 prong (no ground) plug....Is it safe?
3) Is there a way to convert it to have a ground?

So far everyone I have talked to all said just plug it in and see what happens......
I like old equipment and would love to see this thing work again but just want to have some basic knowledge so as to be safe about it.

Any thoughts?

I'd greatly appreciate any help.....

That looks like a NEMA 2-20, which is an obsolete 240V 20A ungrounded plug.

I'd switch it over to a NEMA 6-20 which is the modern grounded version with a three wire cord. Drill and tap a ground screw in the back of the fuse box for a big safety upgrade.

Thanks ibpooks.....
That was something I was thinking about but was unsure if it was good enough (as I am not an electrician so I felt the need to see what others come up with).

I have a feeling that this ol' boy will run just fine...I just want to make it as safe as possible. Of course I could just buy a motor but I am $ poor & these old motors were made to last & be rebuilt when needed....So why not try it out....

Thanks Again. I appreciate your help.
