Replace outlet with half hot...would this work?

I have a room with 4 outlets tied to one switch. Turning the switch off shuts off all 4 outlets. I was curious before getting into an elaborate project with an electrician, is it possible to simply remove 1 or 2 of the receptacles and replace with half hot? Is that as simple as it sounds, where I can avoid tracing wires and all of that work? Would that solve the issue?

There has to be an unswitched hot. You probably can't without adding a cable unless there is a 3-conductor cable (black, red, white) between the receptacles.

If power comes in at the first receptacle, not the switch, you may be able to convert first receptacle full or half switched and all others full hot.
