Unremovable old new work box
Hello,
Does anyone know how to remove this new work box. It was probably from 1980 so I call it an old new work box. I cut off both nails but it's still stuck. It is a 2 gang. I suspect it has something to do with the bottom left circle in the picture being connected to the back, but how do I remember it if it's connected in the back?

Some of those boxes had bars that added rear support for the box. That's an old composition hard plastic bakelite box. You should be able to break it out. Use a pair of dykes to crack it.

Those are easy to break out. There is often a sheet metal "U" behind the box that might be jammed into the wallboard. A good whack or two will either loosen the bracket or break the box, either way problem solved.
