Another AFCI outlet/breaker question...
I have a general understanding of what afci's are used for but wanted to know if it will work in this situation... let's say for example an electrical cord wire is frayed or damaged in an area such that the diameter of copper wire that is still connected has an insufficient diameter to carry a normal current load. Therefore the wire heats up on that spot and starts to get red hot. Will this eventually cause even more immediate oxidation/resistance to form in that area, snowballing the problem to inevitably lead to detectable arcing? Or will arcing not necessarily occur in this situation that the afci will prevent? thanks!
