Releasing locked in PushMatic breakers

Have changed some Pushmatics before. This box is different with a "locking" plate of formed sheet steel covering the center between the two rows which keeps the single pole breakers from coming out. It is about 3/4" deep. What is the method of removing that "lock"?

Is the cover perhaps not aligned properly?

Yes, that center bar looks like it. This is a branch box so no double breakers on it. Sorry I don't have any pics, camera quit and phone doesn't interface with my computer, yet.

If you look at the top and bottom breakers...... I believe those brackets with the screws in them are removable. Try removing the bottom bracket first.

Those are 2 pole breakers and screws on the handle tie are not removable.

Yes, that center bar looks like it.
That is part of breaker mounting. You cannot remove and don't need to remove.
You just unscrew breaker from the bus bar and pull the breaker. There are 2 clips that slides into the center bar.
Some times those clips are very tight and may have some rust hold it in the place. Put a flat had screw driver between the breaker and center bar and twist or ply slightly. That should release the breaker.
