New Switch Trips Breaker
Kitchen makeover included new receptacles and switches. As much of a klutz that I am, I figured even I could do this. Apparently, I was wrong. One of the boxes has a receptacle on one side and a switch on the other. They are on different breakers. The receptacle works fine. The switch controls the receptacle under the sink and controls the dishwasher and disposal. When I plugged in the disposal it tripped the circuit. Did I buy the wrong switch? Is it wired wrong? Two pictures below. . .although for the life of me I cannot figure out why they are sideways.
Thank you!

Thank you!

Dishwasher receptacle should be always hot not controlled by the switch.
Often, half of the duplex receptacle is used for dishwasher and the other half is used for disposal and only this half is controlled by the switch.
To accomplish this, 12/3 cable is used and the receptacle is powered by 2 different poles.
Does receptacle for dishwasher/disposal have black wire on one terminal and red wire on the other? If so, you have to break a tab on hot side of receptacle. It is a small brass piece connected tow halves of the receptacle.
Also your switch should be grounded even if it was not done before. And you should wrap wire on the terminal clockwise. If you wrap wire counter clockwise as you have right now, the wire unwraps as you tighten the screw.

When you post massive pictures..... the board doesn't know what to with them. Your pictures were 3000x4000 and over 3mb each. The board can only display about 650x650 and 80kb.

Yes, receptacle under sink was replaced. I thought I did a straight swap, buying the same receptacle I was replacing and wiring it similarly. When you start talking 12/3 cable, breaking tabs, etc. . .well, I'm likely over my head.
Pete, sorry about the mega-photos. Damn cell phones. . .

If they are on 2 different breakers, are they right on top of each other? If not, it is illegal. There should be a handle tie so both circuits are turned off when you turn the breaker off or one of them trips.
It is multi wire branch circuit and could be dangerous if one works on the wiring without realizing it and finding associated breaker.
