12 volt 8AH X 4 = 48 volt 32 AH?

Like the title says. Wired in series I have 4 batteries that are 8 amp hour will they total 32 AH 48 VOLT or just 48 volt 8 AH?. IM building an electric go kart and didn't want to buy a $400 48 volt scooter battery so I bought 4 motorcycle batteries instead and wired them in series. Just wondering how long they will last before I get it all together. The recommended scooter battery was 48 volt 10AH but was almost $400...

Any input would be appreciated.

Each battery is still only 8AH. That doesn't increase..... just the voltage does.

That pack for $400 is probably Lithium Ion.

Your 48v 8AH setup will power the cart about 20% less time/distance than the factory battery. Keep in mind that lead batteries are damaged by deep discharging. Your batteries will last longer if you only run them down about half way before recharging.

Another kick is that your battery setup will also deliver about 20% less peak current. So if you stomp on the accelerator your batteries will provide about 80% the amperage of a 10amp pack. This is just a limit of lead battery technology and how quickly it can dump current. Lithium batteries on the other hand can provide massive amounts of current.

Generally speaking

Wired in SERIES you add up to find the voltage-
Wried in PARALLEL you add up to find the amperage
