Does code allow white tape on black #4 wire?

Id like to save $ and buy a 500' roll of black #4 for a 60 amp sub-panel line I'm running. ie. Instead of paying by the foot for 2 blacks and a white. Is it true that you can use white tape for the neutral since #4 is larger then #6. Supposedly #6 and smaller one cannot white tape a neutral. thanks

Yes, #4 and larger can be remarked with tape or paint; #6 and smaller must have factory coloring (with a very few exceptions).

Don't forget you need a ground wire to go along with the 2 hots and 1 neutral. Sub feeder needs to be 4 wires.
