Electric Cooktop hookup

Hello all,

I'm finishing up a kitchen remodel I helped my mother complete. Received the cooktop today and wanted to clarify something.

The cooktop is only a cooktop, no oven .... electric. I have a double pole 40 amp breaker and 8/3 wire running to a non metallic box. The one pictured here.

When I was buying the supplies this stuck out to me and I bought it because it even said RANGE. However, When I received the cooktop and saw the metallic conduit armored wire sticking out of it I started to question what I had done. The 8/3 wire is coming into the box via the built in plastic clamp. Can I place a flex metal nipple on the metal armored cable and use a two gang cover with a 1/2" KO on it?

If not can I run the wire in the box into a metal box attached to the outside of the plastic box? or will I need to pull some sheetrock and have the metal box installed?

Thanks in advance.

You can use a right angle type if you have clearance problems.

Not a problem to put a metal cover on a plastic box or a metal conduit into a hole in a plastic box.
