Well pump wiring
I'm getting ready to pull my submersible well pump to replace (22 years old), and noticing that there are only two wires running from house down to pump. Both wires are black and I'm assuming there is no ground wire. The casing is pvc and I'm wondering if a ground wire is necessary?

Make sure you know if you have a 120v or 240v well system. I've seen many old well systems with no ground wire. I'm not really sure why that is. I'd want my pump grounded.

It must be 240 as I'm getting 120 reading off both wires. There's a ground wire from fuse box to switch on pressure tank, but only two wires leaving box to well pump

That does sound like a 240v system.
When you replace your pump you could use three wire cable and ground the pump.

I would.
You said you're replacing your pump. See what they recommend.
Is your well casing steel ?
