Rough-in connection for gas fireplace

Replacing our gas fireplace which was controlled by a wall switch with a new fireplace that has a wireless remote. i would still like to rough in the existing wall switch wiring in case it's needed in the future.

Can I simply connect black to black and white to red here? The new wiring is not terminated.

Likely Yes. Gas fireplaces are low voltage and use millivolts to turn on and off. Wire color means nothing. You can double check at the switch too.

Usually with a wireless remote you don't have spare connection wires.
Those wires should be labeled. If not on the wires themselves..... check the manual.
