Effluent Pump Float switch 230v help?

I am replacing my Goulds (WE0312M) 230v Effluent pump that currently is hardwired/heatshrunk to a float switch. When I ordered the replacement pump and a new float switch the shop told me I can not hardwire and a relay or control box must be used. I understand 2 wires are coming hot to the pump, would those be spliced together to one side of the float switch? and then the other side would go to the pumps 2 hot wires?

Did you get a relay or control box ?

The majority of floats..... and ALL the ones I've used..... have a mercury capsule in them for switching. That mercury switch is rated for VERY low current and should never run a pump directly.
