How support vertical runs of NM?

Our panel is on the second floor so we need to run some cables vertically through a stud wall to the panel.
since you can only fit 2 wires or so on each stud, the rest could be run through drilled holes in the top plate and bottom plate but how do you support the cable every few feet halfway through the stud wall ?
a piece of blocking placed flat on the back of the stud wall?

That is one option. The staples don't all need to be lined up. A couple could stapled at 3 feet, a couple more at 3.5 feet, etc.
Or you could use cable stackers.
