Hello, I live in a pretty old 3-level house and most of the outlets are 2 prongs. There are 3 prongs outlet in the upstairs 2 bedrooms, but they were improperly installed. When i was in the crawl space installing a bathroom fan recently, i was perplexed to see the new romex connecting to the existing knob/tub wiring, but with the green wire cut off. Turns out the #@#$# capped off the old 2 prongs outlets and installed the new 3 prongs outlets without grounds, which I confirmed with the multimeter and the outlet tester. This was done many many years ago, which I didn't know then what to check. I went ahead and replaced all the outlets with GFCI's The main panel was upgraded with the ground rod installed luckily. I like to go one step further and fix some of the outlets that are "easily" accessible. Some of these are easier to fix than others, ie. accessible either from the garage or from the attic crawl space ( at least while i can still fit through). i'm planning to run the THHN wires inside a conduit along the ceilings in the garage with a few junctions, then run THHN wires through the wall to the 2nd floor, than maybe all the way up through the attic and I should be able to fix half of all the outlets.. I'd prefer to run the whole new romex or keep the same path for the ground with the existing circuits but most likely are not feasible and out of scope. My questions: [list=1] [*]I believe code allows me to daisy chain. I probably run 2-3 new ground wires from the main panel & up through the walls and daisy chain to the existing outlets. Is this adequate? [*]planning to run the THHN green wire in a conduit from the main panel and run 2-3 ground wires around the garage plus a few junction boxes (possibly). [*]planning to use the #12 thhn solid green wires up the wall from the garage to the 2nd floor outlets. i have 500 ft to play with. [*]planning to use the #12 thhn solid green wire to spider/daisy chain in the attic then down the wall to the 3rd floor outlets. Thank much!! edit: i checked all the outets and i wasn't lucky enough that the metal boxes are not grounded so i'll need to run from the main panel.

I have a 100 amp box in the garage. On the left side of the box is two 240 amp breakers. One is a receptacle for a welder. The other is for a 220 heater. On the right side are 6 120 amp breakers. I went to the garage this morning, opened the door. The top 120 amp breaker controls the garage door. None of the lights or receptacles would work which are located directly under the garage door breaker. none of them appeared to be tripped. I reset all of the breakers and still no lights. Later in the day, the lights and receptacles started working just fine without me doing anything. Any suggestions?? could it be in the panel??
