4 way switch troubles

I had to replace one of the three way switches on a 4 way circuit. Now if that new 3 way switch turns the lights off the other two switches do nothing. However if I turn on the lights with the new switch the other two operate normally. I'm totally stumped any advise is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forums.

It's critical to put the same wire back on the common/dark screw terminal.
Do you remember which wire that was ?

No it's not or it would work, unless you also messed with the other switches.
Moving the wires by position does not always work. The COMMON screw is not always in the same position. You need try a different wire on the COMMON screw. Good news is there is only two more wires to try so it will only take two tries at the most to get it right.

Just to clarify...... you put all the wires in the same position on the new switch or did you make sure the common wire was on the common terminal regardless of location ?
