A buddy has a three gang box with three switches but only two are active. The third switch was added for expansion. He's adding additional lights to the third switch. He has fished the line through the wall into the box but it's an older box and the wire is just not secured in anyway in the box (older box, no tabs, etc). The other two lines into the box were done prior to drywall so they are secured to the stud in the wall. Are there aftermarket solutions to somehow secure the new line? The line will run across the ceiling so he could secure the line at various points along that run but the line would be loose in the wall and not secured to the box. Or just rip the old box out and install a new one?

I replaced a switched outlet together with a switch, but the outlet that is supposed to be controlled by the switch stopped working. I was trying to be careful to attach all the wires to the same connectors, but I must have messed something up. Could you please take a look at the pictures below to guess what I did wrong? Switch: [url]https://imgur.com/a/W0rg4CH[/url] Outlet (tab is broken): [url]https://imgur.com/a/oiueROi[/url] With this set up, I have the lower outlet permanently on and it works fine with devices, but the upper one doesn't work with devices. I don't have a voltmeter, but when I test the not working outlet with a voltage detector, the indicator lights up all the way to the highest level regardless of whether the switch is on or off. What am I doing wrong?
