panel cover spring loaded

What is the function of the spring loaded inner portion of a panel cover?

Hi, is it a flush mount cover? if so it helps to mount the cover flush.

like an everyday residential square d cover...the ones I am familar with all have the spring mounted center portion that rest over the breaker slots.

I thought the spring loaded feature was to give pressure to the breakers so they dont pop out.

No, there is no danger of any Square D breaker popping out. That feature is to assist the cover to fit the breakers properly especially in flush installations when the panel box may be set into the wall just a little too far. Earlier QO series loadcenters had adjustment screws to adjust the panel interior out to fit the cover when necessary. Square D has cheapened their products considerably over the years since being acquired by Schneider and the springs are probably just a way they could cut their cost.
