Garage lighting circuit

I am finishing up the rough in for my garage wiring. I have one short run left for an outside light. Unfortunately the run is 8' and I only have 6' of 14/2 left. I do have plenty of 14/3. Any reason I can't use that and just wire nut the unused red conductor at both ends?

14-3 for 14-2 is fine. Cap off the spare at both ends.
