1 box 2 breakers, help!

1 box 2 breakers, help!

i will try to keep this short and to the point.

i just discovered 1 connector box with 2 cables from 2 separate breakers. both the hot (black) are connected together and both the neutral (white) are connected together.

is this acceptable? is this safe? why would this be done? is this someones mistake? or is this a common practice?
seems unnecessary to me.? but i could be wrong

That is wrong. Someone probably made a mistake. 2 different sources can be in the same box, but has to be kept separate. Otherwise, the breaker will not trip properly on overload. Only the ground wire should be connected together.
