Question Possible to detect low voltage wire through vinyl siding?

My contractor can't recall if the electrician ran a low voltage wire near the front door and we think the siding guys may have installed the siding and covered it up without pulling the wire through. Now I am trying to figure out if the low voltage wire is behind the vinyl siding. (I wanted to use the wiring for a video doorbell.)

Is there anyway to find out if there is a wire behind there without ripping off all the siding? Would a voltage detector be strong enough to pick up a low voltage wire behind heavy plastic/vinyl siding?

Vinyl siding is quite easy to unzip, provided you have a Malco Sideswiper. If the wire is supposed to be in a certain location, I would just unzip that piece of siding and look behind. If its not there you will know.

A non contact voltage detector pen/tester..... no.
A tone generator and tracer..... yes.

I think I would start by asking the electrician.

Thanks

Hey Casualjoe, he can't recall. Wired the house about 7 months ago pre covid and has done a lot of jobs since then. I have been using a battery powered doorbell cam since then but now want to run it via hardwire.

So the easiest thing to do is to get a Sideswiper like Xsleeper mentioned in post 2.
It sounds difficult but it's not. I left you a video link.
Go to the 2:00 point and the guy demonstrates how the tool works.
You should only need to open one seam.

If its there, you need to unzip it in order to measure where to drill the hole in the siding... and you have to unzip it to run the wire through the siding before you zip it back up again. So this seems like a no brainer.
