110 volts to 220 volts

Hi,

I'm new here, I was taught electronics in school but I need help. I live in New Jersey and my house only provides 110 Volt outlets, I have an equipment that I need to power on but it does not as it requires 220 VOLTS.I need to take the equipment with me as its portable so I need a power bank that can power it up. The equipment power needs reads as follow, 220 VOLTS, 3 AMPS, 550 WATTS. Any power bank that I can buy to power it up for at least an hour or 2 ???? I need answers guys! Help please.

Nominal voltage in a house is typically 120/240 volts.

What equipment are you trying to run? Are you trying to use some overseas equipment?

In order to use something that is 240 volts, you will need to install a new circuit from your electrical panel.

Yup it is an equipment from overseas. It says 220v on it. I need to power it outdoors.

Basic power banks or inverters are typically 120v.
There are 240v models but the batteries make them clumsy (read that as heavy) to use.

What exactly are you powering ?

Your title says 110v to 220v. Does that mean you have 120v out there ?
If yes.... you can get a small transformer to increase the voltage.

No such thing as 110/220V not since like 60 or more years ago it is 120/240V now but some cheap China CRAP says 110 or 220 but 110/115/117/118/120/125V are one and the same the nominal voltage is 120/240VAC.

I also found a cheap or free way to get 277VAC as I needed to test a 277VAC only light fixture a real nice fluorescent troffer that uses 2 x FT40 lamps (AKA PL-L) the ballast was 277VAC only.
I used my old Metal Halide ballast which as a 120V and a 277V tap well use it for 120VAC and the 277VAC wire can be used to get power to that ballast just don't exceed the lamp wattage of the Metal Halide ballast (100W in my case)

There are 2 phases going to a house. Each phase is 110V against ground but between those two phases is 220V (usually used for electrical hot water tank). So get an electrician to wire 220V outlet for you. You will need a 220V receptacle and a matching plug to install on the appliance cord.

BTW a transformer 110/220V 500W is a large and heavy! Not a small one as Pjay suggested.

Not entirely false statement since China's nominal voltage is 220V and 110V in some regions. Since it is just 1:2 transformer it will also double US's 120V to 240V.

There actually is 120V to 220V transformer, but very hard to find.
Supplying 240V to devices specifically deigned for 220V may fail prematurely. Most restive loads and electronics utilizing switching power supplies work just fine, but electronics with simple step down transformer can fail because voltages coming out of step down transformer will be higher than designed voltage. I actually have fried control circuit of an amplifier because of this.

In the US (and I believe Canada as well) most single-family dwellings are fed with single-phase where the midpoint of the transformer is grounded. The nominal voltage between each leg is 120 volts nominal to ground and 240 volts nominal between each leg. Nominal voltage will vary +/- 5-10%

It would be ideal to wait and see what the OP needs to power.

Here's an example of a 120v to 240v transformer/convertor. A whole seven pounds !
120v --> 240v

He's asking for a power bank that he can use away from grid power. Unfortunately, 220v power banks are rare in the US. Amazon has a 1000 w solar power generator which has 220v outputs
for about $900.

I have no idea if that would run something that draws 550 watts for 2 hours. My experience with smaller devices like this is that they are severely over-rated, and you get far less than the spec sheet promises.

I would probably try to find a used generator.

I good inverter for European equipment will usually give 230V 50 Hz. A 12 V battery sutable for this may be a large battery of at least 100 Ah, a generator may be more easy to to move around.
