Wiremold and ungrounded circuits.

Can someone verify that NEC 250.86 allows the use of raceway like Wiremold to extend ungrounded circuits up to 25 feet? That what is seems to say. Thanks for your help.

As far as I know ungrounded circuits are not permitted to be extended by any method.

You are not allowed to extend an ungrounded circuit.

205.86 exception #1 is only for protecting existing installations.

What would an existing installation be? Protecting exposed wiring?

Whether or not the wiremold needs to be grounded, you still have to comply with 250.130(c): must run a ground wire for the new outlets. Which probably isn't less work than running a new circuit.

Protecting wiring that was installed under an earlier code cycle.
