I recently wired my garage to use as a woodworking shop. I extended the outlet boxes out from the studs about 1/2 inch ( the thickness of the wallboard). I have had the walls sheetrocked and I find that I did not extend the boxes out far enough as they are not flush with the sheetrock but still recessed about 1/2 inch. Can I go ahead and install the outlets with the boxes as they are? Do they make an extention for the boxes? or do I have to cut out the boxes and reinstall them? Thanks

Art, I find your post confusing. First you said that your did extend the boxes out from the studs by the 1/2" thickness of the drywall, but then you say that the boxes are still recessed 1/2". Did you use 1" drywall???

At any rate, you can leave them alone or install extenders. You don't need to cut out the boxes (bet you're glad to hear that!!!).
