I just bought a gable mount attic fan that I need to wire in. I have a 3 prong outlet in the attic. Can I run an extention cord from that plug, cut the female end off and wire in my new fan for a short period of time. I just want to see if this fan is going to drop the temperature in my house - so I don't want to wire it in permanetly.

Cool

I like the idea of using a cord, temporarly, but don't cut the end off of it. Add a plug to the fan, and plug it into the cord. do this for just a short time (1 day or so). I can attest that this will lower the temp. of your attic. The temp today here in Colorado was 100degrees, and you can bet that, without my attic fan, the temp inside the attic was 130 or so. I would go ahead and wire it to stay. You will probably not want to remove it once it is working.

Good luck.
