I am intstalling a hot tub which requires a 220v 50amo GFCI circuit breaker and a 50amp disconnect over 10 feet from the hot tub outside. I understand that I need 6/4 wire but I don't know if I have need to pull 4 - 6awg wires through flexible conduit or whether I can use UF (underground feeder) cable without the conduit. I will be running it 4-5 inches underground. The distance from the power panel in the house to the Hot Tub is about 25-30 feet. Please advise. Thanks

Start with a 1990 code book and look up article 680 pg.476. Then article680 part D. I would say to call your inspector in your area and find out what is code for you. One will be to dig 18" not 5" for your underground branch ckt.; unless you will be using riged or I.M.C.. In my area the inspector hands out pool/spa info. sheets if you ask him for one.

Try the following link this may help you understand a method of wiring an outside hot tub. Meggar is right, once you understand the 99 NEC requirments you should talk to you local electrical inspector. He is the AHJ and the final say on the subject concerning any local rules etc.
