I'm trying to find out how to determine the max number/types of outlets to install on a given circuit breaker. I want to wire an outside patio cover/wet bar. I want to run a new breaker for this, but don't know how to estimate the system.

As many as you want, unless you will br running heavy
appliances or power tools on them.

For your application, an outlet or 2, wired with 12/2,
on a 15A breaker will be ok.

As Gary said, the code allows you to put as many receptacles as you want on this circuit.

If you know what you plan to plug in, or might plug in, you can design specifically for the number of watts you will use.

If you are installing these receptacles for unspecified purposes, then normally you should limit yourself to 8 receptacles on a 15-amp circuit and 10 on a 20-amp circuit. Again, you don't have to -- this is just a rule of thumb.
