Ceiling fan/light wiring

Help. please

I purchased a ceiling fan/light.
I'm 'stumped'!.
My new fan has 3 wires: red (light), black (fan), white (neutral).

The light fixture I want to repalce has 2 wires. one black and one white. There is one wall switch leading to light

BUT. My current fixture is wired into the ceiling. Out of the ceiling are 3 wires: 2 white and one red

The current hook up has the white wire from the light fixture attached to the 2 white wires from the ceiling and the black wire attached to the red wire from the ceiling.

Question: I have a red, black and white wire on the new ceiling fan to hook into the existing 2 whites and red! What wires go where, please?

Thanks. All advice appreciated.

I don't understand the current wiring, but luckily, neither you nor I need to.

Simply connect the white from your new fan to the two whites from the ceiling, and both the black and red from your new fan to the red from the ceiling.

The wall switch will control both the light and fan simultaneously. To control one without the other, you'll need to use the pull chains.

What made this solution so easy was your thorough explanation and the fact that you were smart enough to notice how the old light was connected before disconnecting it. Thank you.
