Dimmer on 3-way switch

I want to install a dimmer for my foyer chandalier. The dimmer I bought is a single pole dimmer, but the light runs on a 3 way switch.

I am assuming I can't use the single pole dimmer on this circuit. Is this correct? If not how can I pull this off. (Because I can't find a dimmer style that I want in the three way dimmer style).

If I use a three way dimmer do I have to put it on both outlets, or can I have one dimmer and the other one just on/off?

Do I have to do anything special to make this work?

Thanks!

You're right, you have the wrong dimmer and there is no way to get it to work for you (assuming you still want to use the other switch).

Take it back and buy a 3-way dimmer (about 50% more expensive). You only need one.

Be very sure to check which wire is attached to the common screw on the old switch before you disconnect it.
