I have a question. . .
Hi,
I have a house where the living room and the dining room are in one place. When I switch the lights on, both the living room and the dining room lights are on. I do not like that. I want the lights of the living room to be on while the dining room lights are off and vice versa. Any suggestions?

Question is if this is a wiring mistake and the wires are there just not wired correctly or if you need to add a switch leg to one of hte light fixtures. Open your switch and see how many cables are in that box. Then look to see if there is more than one conductor connected to the wire going to both screws of the switch in question. Then come back in with that info. We may be able get closer to your answers then.

If this is working as designed, then this modification is a simple job for an electrician. It is well within the capabilities of most homeowners too (if and only if there is an attic above these rooms), but you must read a couple of books on home wiring first.
