If you have only two wire connected to that switch it does not matter which wire goes to which screw.

By the way there is no neutral connected to a switch. On a single pole switch you have a hot conductor and a switched hot conductor, no neutral conductor to that switch.

On a three way switch you have a common hot conductor and two traveler hot conductors, no neutral connected to that switch.

Hope this helps

Is the power source that is close by, hot all the time, or is it switched by another switch upstream?
