broken bulb

How do I replace a broken bulb that is still in a socket? Or should I say how do take out a broken bulb out of a socket with the power on? Any replies would be appreciated/ Thanx

Turn you circuit's breaker off. If you are unsure then turn off you main service breaker in the panel.

If you have a glass pedistal still sticking out of the socket then take a pare of pliers and gently grasp the flat end of that pedistal and twist. Some times the socket will twist you with that glass pedistal.

If the pedistal is broken off and all you have is an empty socket with maybe some junk in the socket then try taking a potato and jam it into the socket then holding the socket steady then try twisting out the broken socket.

If that potato idea doesn't work then get a pair of needle nose pliers and grasp the metal of the bulb making sure you done grasp the outside socket's metal shell. Then start twisting it to see if it will come unscrewed. If it won't unscrew that way the use the needle nose pliers to twist the light socket into a point inside the fixture socket. then grasp the twisted point with the pliers and apply more force to unscrew the socket.

One method above should get you through.

Let us know how you come out.
