Dimmer Switch

I want to install a dimmer switch in my living room, which has 3 different stations for light control. I purchased a dimmer switch, and tried to install it but it only works in a specific order with the other switches, do I need a certain type of switch?

Extra info: The dimmer switch I purchased has two black and one ground wire. The switch I replaced had 2 black and one red wire attached to it. I connected the 2 black wires to 2 black wires and then the red to the ground. It did not work as I had hoped it would from all stations so I'm awaiting some advice from you guys.

Appreciate any help, anyone can give.

You need to purchase a three way dimmer and it will have One common terminal two travellers and most likely a ground the common will be marked connect it with the same wire that was on the common on the old switch the two travellers will connect to the two other screws on the switch will not matter which goes to which the ground if there is a ground screw on the recpectacle connect to it.

A 3-way dimmer costs about 50% more than a regular dimmer.
