kitchen lighting

Seeking advice on replacing old, recessed flourescent light fixture in kitchen area. Current lighting is dull....causing shadows over working area. Fixture is approx. 24" w/2 bulbs.

outside dimension of fixture (the frame) is approx 26" in length by 8" wide....this part is somewhat flush with the ceiling, the recessed part of the fixturee itself would 6" wide x 24" long. Any ideas? Would consider staying with recessed lighting due to the fact the ceiling is only a little over 6.5' high...and dimensions of area are small

Consider installing a 2-tube,4ft. "wrap-around" flourescent surface fixture which is shallow in depth-the width of the fixture will cover the opening in the ceiling. The "wrap-around" refers the the plastic cover that conceals the tubes. You don't need a ceiling outlet box, just a cable into the top of the fixture.Good Luck!!
