Unhappy Electical - Negative is now Positive ?

I have a electrical problem on one circuit in our bedroom. I tested the positive and negative with a volt meter and found no voltage. But when I tested the ground to either one of the positive and negative polls, I got voltage? Their are about 5 outlets and a light on the circuit, of which none of them work. They all behave the same way. I don't know where to start.

Sounds like you're measuring DC voltage.

The outlet has AC.

Try measuring AC voltage.

I am suspecting that you have a loose connection. If this house was wired in the 70s then open your receptacles and look for back stabbed wiring into those receptacles. If you have back stabbed receptacles then open them all and look for signs of heating or other damage or loose wires just setting in the holes of the receptacles. Pull on each wire plugged into the receptacles. It has been commonly found that you will lose part of a circuit with receptacles back stabbed due to failure of those back stab connections.

Let us know what you find
