Dryer Wiring

I want to set up & operate my dryer from a hall closet that also houses the hot water heater. A friend told me to tap into the wiring of the water heater, but I have no idea how/whether I should do this. Is this safe/easy to do? There is no outlet in the closet, the wiring from the water heater goes into the wall. Do I create an outlet, tap into the water heater or ???

At least two problems with your friend's advice: (1) You'd have to shut off the water heater to run the dryer or you'll blow the circuit, and (2) The water heater does not have a neutral wire and the dryer likely needs one. There are probably other issues too. So I'd install a new 30-amp circuit for the dryer. And make sure you figure out how to run the vent to the outside.
