Wiring Switch with Two Black Wires

I have a light switch that controls an outlet. There are two black wires coming to the switch box and the switch toggles power between the hot wires. I'd like to run a seperate cable out of this switch box for a light fixture but without a white wire I'm not sure I can. Is this true?

Yes, if there are no white wires in the switch box, it's true. Find another source of power. It's often a bad idea to try to tap power from a switch box (even when there are white wires).
