bighorn60, Their are several ways of doing this but, this is the neatess way of doing it. Once you have determine want size wire is in that receptacle outlet box(#14-2wgNM or #12-2wgNM), get yourself a 12" piece of NM cable that size and cut it in half. Pull each wire out the sheath with your pliers. Take your knife or wire strippers and strip about 3/4 of an inch of covering off each end of the black and white wires. Take the two black wires and place them underneath a wirenut (yellow if using #14 gauge/red if using #12 gauge wire) with the black wire you removed from the receptacle. Do the same proceedure with the white and bare copper wires. DO NOT USE THE STABEND CONNECTIONS(those are the small holes on the back of the receptacle). Make all wiring connections at the screw terminals on the receptacles. Put a loop in the wire at the other end in the direction that the screw tightens with pliers. The black wires connect to the brass color screws, the white wires connect to the silver color screws and the bare copper wires connect to the green color screws.

Hope this helps!
