Plug in Attic

I have a semi finished attic in the house that i am renting right now with only one plug that is not grounded. I want to put a dehumidifer up there but i'm worried about there being no grounded plug.
So here is my question,,,,can i just use a 12 or 14 guage grounded extension cord from my bedroom downstairs up to the attic approx. 30feet.
Any input would be appreciated

No, not legally.

Does your humidifier have a three-prong plug? If no, simply plug it into the existing outlet. If yes, replace the outlet with a GFCI receptacle.
