Question Square D breakers ok, in G.E. breaker box?

Hi, recently had problem with a breaker that I needed to change out. When I went to get a replacement, I told them I had a G.E. breaker box with type-hom square D breakers installed. The man at the hardware store told me that square D breakers should not be installed in a G.E breaker box and it could cause arching. The house is only about 8 years old, I moved in a year ago. Will the square D breakers be ok? Or should I replace all of them with another brand? THANKS FOR ANY ADVICE!!!

Use whatever brand you want as long as they fit the buss, mounting bar and cover opening like the originals

It's that "as long as" phrase that causes all the trouble. Sometimes breakers appear to fit, but don't really fit quite well enough. Make your panel and breakers match, by changing out one or the other. Are you really sure you have a GE box?
