Converting GFI to Standard outlet

don't know why you would want to change a GFI
outlet to a regular, but, if the outlet is a GFI Change it If a Breaker is the GFI it would be best to leave it alone (they are expensive and it is there for a reason) If you insist however it can be changed also.

Don't replace a GFCI with a regular outlet just because something keeps tripping it. If the GFCI is bad, replace with another GFCI.
But FIRST - make sure what is plugged into it isn't causing it to trip. Many people have been killed because a saw, hairdryer, etc tripped the GFCI and they blamed the GFCI instead of the appliance. They then bypassed the GFCI. Their survivors then realized the GFCI was saving a life.

hi Gil,
It is a verry unwise idea to replace a gfci with a standerd recep. the national electric code mandates that there be a gfci installed in sertin locations, the section of the code that tells abought this for a dwelling is artical 210-8 a of the 1996 code its located on page 57 go 2 your local library and look this up if u like, or email me and ill send u a copy of it. they r there 4 your safty, so please dont repalice it with a standard recep. i have never know an electrician 2 just put a gfci in where 1 wasnt needed. enough said on replacing with standard recep.
if you r wanting to replace it because its tripping every time u use it test it with the test buttion or go to your local hardwear store and buy a GFCI tester there inexpensive, and easy 2 use , u just plug them in and press the buttion. if the gfci is bad replace it with another gfci just put the wires in the same location on the new as the old
