Red face

My new home is full of overhead lights that can be turned on from two wall switches in the house. However, when the light is off, one is up and one is down. I know very little about electical wiring, but is this something I can correct myself? Can someone explain how in very simple language?

Thanks for the help. I guess I was just hoping that when the light was off, both switches could be facing the same direction (both up or both down).

Easy fix. Shut off power, remove the plate
to one of the switches, pull out the switch
(leave the wires connected), turn it upside
down, reverse the steps you performed taking
it out.
