Breaker for hot water tank was tripping a few months ago,but lowering the water temp appeared to work.Well guess what,It did it again a couple times in a row the other day.Excessive hot water was not being used. Please, what could be the possible problems causing this?(element burned out?)Thank You much ahead of time!

hello jake,
from the info u put in your post im betting u have a bad heating element/elements, whin an element starts going bad u can prolong them some times by lowering the temp. could also be the thermastat but not as likley.

You most likely have an elemnt(s) going bad. There is a slim chance you have a nuisance trip from a breaker going bad. How old is the breaker?

Without a clamp on ammeter it is difficult to tell exacly what is wrong, but as i said it is most likely yhe element. Do you know how to change it out?

Hal
