Meter base height

I was told that a neter base could be no higher than 6', if this is true, is this from the bottom to ground or from the top of the meter base to ground.

Thanks in advance,

Kenny

The meter base height is dictated by the Utility company rules and not the NEC. This height requirement changes per locality.

In my area the height is supposed to be 5' 6" to center of meter socket which would compute to about the 6' to top of meter box.

Many areas have a rule of no lower that 5' and not higher than 6' to the center of the meter.

Check with your serving utility company or your local AHJ [electrical inspector] to confirm your locality rules that apply.

Good Luck

the local power guy told me: have the height so an average man/woman can read the meter flatfooter. looking straight at it.
