burnt smell coming from ceiling fan
#1

Just installed Hunter ceiling fan with light fixture that is controlled at the wall with one switch for the lights and the other for the fan. Have noticed that when the lights are only on that the ceiling fan starts to smell like a burnt rubber smell. The lights and the fan work fine other than this. The light fixture came with the fan and there was no wiring needed because the fan had a wire harness that connected to the light wire harness. I think that the capacitors are overheating. What could be causing this?

low voltage could be causeing the wires 2 over heat, but it could also be a factery defect in the fan. any time we have a fan that has something out of ordanery we replace it, id say this is defenetly unordanery as i have never installed 1 and had this problem, id take it down and extachange it 4 another 1

the fan company finally emailed back and said that the burnt rubber smell is coming from rubberbands that were placed around the globes on the light kit. They thought this would help with vibration and noise but they didn't think about the rubberbands getting too hot. They advise to take the rubberbands off the globes and the fan should work fine.
